Question: Do you have to wear any prtective clothing or uniform whilst doing the job? If yo udo, what does it look like, does it make you look like an alien??? :)
‘charlotte: The only protective clothing I have ever had to wear has been in war zones where I have had to wear a flak jacket and a helmet. They are heavy but useful if someone turns an AK47 assault rifle towards you. Frankly, in such situations, you really don’t care what you look like.
If I am in the office there is no PPE (personal protective equipment) or uniform. The general style is smart trousers and a shirt or polo shirt. But one of my colleagues wears a leather jacket and a kilt to work. Many people were ties, but I hate the ties so never wear one.
When I go to the production areas I have to wear PPE: overalls, boots, hard-hat, eye protection, high-viz jackets. Sometimes: respirators, ear protection, gloves. Depending on the task and job.
Today I am out on a boat on the river and so I’m wearing a lifejacket in the small chance that I fall in. I’ve also got a uniform on, but it’s a little bit boring as it makes me look like I work as a security guard in Tesco!!
