Hi again, Claudz: No, I do not invent random stuff. I try to concentrate on designing things that are needed to address particular problems, just like Alex says.
In my job, I’m definintely not an inventor – as I use tried and tested materials and methods to fix problems on the rivers. I might sometimes have to think hard to find a good solution, but never so hard that I’d have to invent something! I’ll give you an example, today I was looking at dredging on the river – this means taking out some of the mud and sand that is blocking the river in some places. The problem is what to do with the mud and sand after we’ve dug it out? I could send it to landfill, like you would with any other waste, but that’s not very good for the environment and costs quite a lot of money… or I could try to spread it on a field for a farmer, or possibly use it to repair a river bank. Or perhaps I need to think of another solution entirely?!
