Question: Do you think you would have still wanted to become an engineer if your teachers for engineer related subjects weren't as good ( Ken, you mentioned your maths teacher and Harriet, you mentioned your physics teacher) ?
Difficult to say, but I think I’d still have continued but probably got worse results. In fact, it was what I did AFTER the engineering course that really switched me on to what I did after turning 40. So often it boils down to getting just any qualification if only to prove that you can work at a high enough technical level, and then working into what really interests you even if it is different from what you started doing.
Probably. Although I believe a lot depends on the teachers. My teacher for maths in secondary school was not nice at all. And at A-levels I didn’t have a maths teacher and had to self study with a book at home. My physics teacher was really good, fun and enthusiastic guy.
But I think in general people enjoy doing things that they are good at. And it is easier to be good at a subject that has a good teacher.
