To an extent. I feel that my work results in real things being made or fixed. I feel that engineers like me are vital to the development of the technology and world economy.

I would like to think so, but the graveyard is full of indispensible people, and I’ll be there, too, one day. What I want is to try to make the world a better place for as many deserving people as possible before I go to help the world go just a little bit better.

I think I’m a small part of things. I definintely help to improve the River Thames for people who use it for walking, boating, cycling and also live near it.

I’ve also improved some rivers for wildlife such as fish and invertebrates. And I’ve also protected a lot of people from flooding with other projects.

So I think I play my part in keeping the world going!

I think we are all a part of that. The world we live in is a very built environment so engineers are obviously responsible for that but it is so enriched by art and sport that it would be very grey without those fields.
As an individual I like to feel that what I do is worthwhile. I certainly don’t just do this for the money.
