Yes, unless the temperature is either very hot (I have worked in 55 Celsius for a short while) or very cold (in Quetta, Pakistan, the temperature dropped to minus 17 Celsius at one time). We were expected to be neat, clean and not to smell too much – which included not eating garlic just before meeting an important client.
When in the office I wear smart trousers and a shirt. When I go to the ships or construction areas I need to wear protective equipment: overalls, safety boots, hard hat and so on. If on some days I work mainly on the ships I come in jeans as it is more comfortable.
Most people in my office wear fairly normal clothes. Personally I like to wear a shirt and tie, but I don’t have to if I don’t feel like it. Sometimes it is good to be smartly dressed if you are meeting people as it can create the right impression.
