I could write a long list of things that I’ve built on the river which is all kinds of things that help keep a river running smoothly… but actually the most interesting thing I’ve done was go out to Nicaragua and work on supplying water to rural villages out there. I also went to Costa Rica and designed a water supply system to go into a rainforest there. This was pretty exciting work which I’d like to do in the future.
Sometimes the things that really feel like you’ve accomplished something though as the small things – like last year I took on a different job for a while where I was trying to come up with new ways to make money from the River Thames. One idea I had was to put up yurts (a bit like big posh tents) on the River Thames and let people stay in them. I bought one from Mongolia and put it up at one of our sites near Oxford. It looks great and people love staying in it!
