HI,
the question states this is for Ruth but you sent it to me so i will answer it for you anyway 🙂
i am a Civil engineer, and i specialise in Bridge design, construction, maintenance and repair.
i tend to find i work well under pressure. it gets a bit crazy and hectic at times but its pushing you on making you determined to finish. so a bit of pressure is actually a good thing.
thanks

Okay….. if it’s open season on Ruths Questions….
When working in a high pressure environment, you have to be calm, you have to still do all your checks + tests, and not be forced into taking short-cuts to “get the job done”. That takes a bit of learning, and can be very difficult to do, though highly important.
I find that old saying (I’ve badly paraphrased) ” if I can do something about it, I’ll do it, (reducing my stress). If I can’t do something about it, I’ll accept the outcome, as It’s beyond my control” work well for me.
Prioritisation is usefull too.

Hi,
I am a Civil Engineer but my job title is Railway Engineer, I specialise in civil engineering on the railways. I enjoy a lot of pressure due to it making the day go much quicker. Sometimes is it stressful but generally I like the challenge. If there are a lot of things to do at work that all need sorting at the same time, I feel like I am being useful and tend to enjoy this. As Graham says, it is important to prioritise and usually make a list that I can check all the tasks off as I complete them.
