My work varies all the time. I could be working on one project for months and other times I get new job every day.
I am currently in the middle of the second year of my apprenticeship at the end of which (4 years) I aiming to become a fully qualified electronics engineering technician.
After completing my first year at college I have started a 7 month placement at Diamond Light Source experiment. During my time I have learnt a lot of new skills and completed a large amount of tasks. Some were small which included wiring a component and some were big projects which took months. One of my favourite was designing and building a working prototype of a radiation monitor which is intended to be used in experimental target stations. These devices constantly measure radiation levels and warn staff and scientists if there is a leakage. The device was built and currently undergoing testing.
At the moment I am working in the electronics support group where I test, repair and maintain scientific data acquisition equipment for various science experiments.

Normally my day begins very early. I usually arrive at work about 7 am.
As there is no one in the department to supervise me in the workshop I spend the next hour researching information and learning about electronics. I also use this time to complete my NVQ Level 3 Log Books as a part of my apprenticeship training plan. These log books normally contain detailed diary of every project and job I have completed. Each log book is assessed by out on site assessor and then stored in special folders.
As soon as someone arrives I go in the workshop and carry on with my jobs.
Sometimes I find myself carried away and have to have my lunch an hour or two later than others.
