• Question: What's the best part about being an engineer?

      The best part of being an engineer ?
      I think it has to be the sense of satisfaction on completion of a project – seeing it through from start to finish, and a happy client / customer at the end.
      A close second is the way I can take my skills anywhere. Even on holiday. no power ? easy fix. Cooker broken ? have a BBQ instead 🙂
      Bored ? grab a few bits of stuff + make something.
      The engineers brain is never idle for long 🙂

      I like the travelling and the open opportunities to transfer your skills to different projects or job roles. I like that as a Civil Engineer you can work on all different types of project, either in the office or on site which helps me not to get bored at work. You are able to be your own boss in most Civil Engineering jobs and choose what work you want to do.

      How varied your work is and how no 2 projects will ever be the same, you always encounter different projects but the end result is very satisfying.

      The best part for me is the rewarding feeling of taking something that began life in your own head, just a little spark on an idea and then being able to make it grow, put it down into a sketch and the CAD, do the drawings specifying exactly how I want it and then it turning up! amazing 🙂

      You never get bored and every time you meed a new exciting challenge. Being an engineer is very rewarding as you design or/and produce something that helps to solve every day problems

    @rattyvlogger – that’s an easy question ! Our World Record was a cool thing to do, way back in 2005. It was something that really got people noticing us, and is something we’ve used in a lot our tours + talks + visits ” fancy standing inside a World record breaking laser ?” – who can say no to that ? ( we turn it off before we let people in )
    It also shows what can be done when you get a lot of really clever people together, a lot of the parts used were second-hand, so also shows re-using/re-cycling can be industrial + have World leading results.
    OR, was it the liquid explosive detector ? or maybe the ????? I could go on for ages. Research + development is so interesting it’s hard to chose form the projects we do.
