  There have been medical engineers for quite a long time but 3D printing is quite a recent technology, so I think I would have been a medical engineer because I like problem solving which is what most engineers do and I like helping people which is a great reason to be a medical engineer. However as you say the technology is new so I would probably have been working on different technologies – maybe making prosthetics (false legs) or inventing a new type of robotic surgery.
