• Question: what is the most destructive thing you have ever done

      During my job? I had been working on my final dissertation for ages but it was rubbish and not going well so I deleted the whole thing and started again. It was a lot of work to start again but I think I needed a new start and do a better job, sometimes you just need to take a new approach to things.

    I once had a job as the manager of a software company. I was given the task by the owners of turning around its fortunes from a loss-making company to a profitable one. One of the problems was that the software development task was divided between too many people. The previous managers had thrown more people at the problem to try and get it done more quickly – but it made matters worse.
    Unfortunately, it was my job to make around half of the staff redundant. That was a horrible task and not one that I would ever like to repeat. We did turn the company around and into profit though and it saved the other jobs.
