First robotic hand I made was in 2015, during my 3rd year in university studying mechanical engineering. It wasn’t designed for an amputee to use, but rather trying to create a tool that had the dexterity of a human hand. It was controlled by an infrared sensor called LEAP which tracked all the fingers in your hand. Moving your left hand up/down/sideways caused the hand to rotate around its base, while opening/closing your right hand would control the finger movements.

I admit it’s not pretty as there were a few manufacturing setbacks, and a weight miscalculation. We had to add a pretty large counter balance at the back so it could move vertically.
