• Question: What drew you towards software engineering?

      We used to have a computer at home and I liked playing games. Eventually, I got curious about how I can make the computer do what I wanted it to. I wanted to build my own games and programs that would do useful things for me. I wrote my first programs in primary school, little games about guessing a number from 1 to 10, or answering trivia questions, and then more complex ones later, like space invaders, little battle games, a calculator and so on.

      For me it is fascinating to understand how computers work and build programs that make your life easier. It is a way to express myself and my creativity, the same way other people like to paint pictures or create music. Instead of paint or notes, I like to use the computer commands to build smart software that make people say “oh great that saved me from so much trouble if I had to do it myself”.

    Hi there.. Thanks for the question.

    I never really studied software engineering. I studied Electronics & Communication in my UG and Signal processing and Machine learning (Artificial intelligence related..) in my PG. Software engineering is really essential to use computers for whatever you want to. Softwares are how humans speak to computers and tell them what they should do.

    Today every discipline of engineering involves software engineering as a part to it. Whether you study aeronautics, chemical, mechanical or electronics in your engineering, you will end up using software engineering to use computer in the tasks you want to perform. And why is this necessary? Just to make our lives easy. Computers as you know have immense power and efficiency. They can do things that a human does in about 10000x speed and as correctly as we do. So yeah that’s why software engineering is so important and in today’s world, if you are an engineer, you will know software engineering.

    Personally, I need to know more about software engineering as I am not too familiar with it.
