• Question: who is your biggest mentor?

      For me its my dad. I’m definitely a daddies girl. I work for my dads company and he started this business 41 years ago. I’ve been working here 17 years. He has been a huge support, pushing and encouraging me to better myself at every step.

      I’m not sure I really have a single person – lots of different people have been inspiring at different times and in different ways. My parents are both busy lawyers so they gave me drive to do something different! And I was lucky to have some great teachers who gave me lots of support to do things outside of lessons, and friends who have inspired me to do interesting things, but it’s never just been one individual!

      There are quite a few people who’ve been great mentors for me at different times. There have been great teachers and colleagues who’ve given me great advice and been incredibly supportive but my Dad is probably the biggest mentor – he’s always believed in me and encouraged me to do what I enjoy (and not to worry too much about what other people think!).

      There have been quite a few sources of inspiration for me, starting with my parents that ensured i got good education and became independent, even if it took longer that they were hoping for😊 . My partner/wife is a big inspiration to me, to learn how to be kind before being right. There are some authors that were big influence on my mindset, main one being Stephen R. Covey who wrote “7 habits of highly effective people”. I think i have learnt most from ‘doing’ instead of just talking or thinking about it. When I kept trying different things, i failed in a few 🤦‍♂️and succeeded in a few👌 . which taught me a lot about my own strengths and weaknesses. It also gave me confidence in my own ability to do well as long as I was putting in the effort.👍

      There is no one that stands out as my biggest mentor but I get lots of inspiration from other engineers and women I meet at different events, when I learn about how they got to where they are.

      In work, I have 1-2-1 chats with my manager or lead engineer about what I want to do and how I can get there. They give me advice and support when I want to do things.
