    I’m a Structural Engineer- I make sure buildings and bridges stand up!

    I use maths and physics to make sure that ideas for buildings and bridges that architects come up with, can stand up and be built. It’s great fun, I work with lots of interesting people and love watching my designs being built!

    I worked on The Shard for 6 years, designing the foundations and the very top of the building (yes its finished!). I’ve also designed a footbridge, a sculpture and lots of apartment blocks in London.

    A building has lots of different phases- starting from ideas to being built. Every stage is very different which means my work day changes depending on what’s happening on my projects! Somedays I am doing sketches with architects, meeting other engineers, doing calculations and creating 3D models of my structures, and others I will go out to site to look at the construction.

    All the stages are fun in their own way but my favourite bit is when a project is completed and I can point to it and say – “I designed that!”

    Travel around the UK telling more students about engineering!

    I love speaking to students about engineering, in fact I’ve spoken to 1000s of people in the last 3 years. I would love to win the prize and travel even more around the country telling people what I do, and why its fun.
