I haven’t by myself no, but I know many engineers that have! I’ve worked on inventing new ways to build tall towers with my team, does that count?!

Invention is what engineers do all the time! Sadly most of the time it doesn’t happen like the stereotypical inventor in a garden shed. Often our inventions are small improvements in small parts of something. There are relatively few new, big inventions.

Having said that, I did spend some time working on ‘inventing’ new toilet that would help reduce the spread of disease in developing countries. That was a really fun experience but I played a small part in a big team of experts needed to complete all parts of the invention. Seeing it work for the first time was very cool!

I’ve invented processes – ways in which things are done within our team – but not the hands-on-inventing type of thing!

Me neither, like cathy I have invented new process and introduced different ways of working

      Sadly not.
Innovation in my role comes from applying existing technology to new processes and integrating new technology to existing processes.
