Places like hospitals, schools and offices may have backup generators – power supplies that will keep key things on when you have a power cut. For a Country wide powercut though these won’t last forever so it’s really important to get power stations running to supply our electricity needs. It’d be too expensive to have emergency power stations – so some of the ones we have in the UK will be able to start up with no electricity supplies from the network.
Hi Rach, sorry to but in…a lot of water treatment plants have back up generators and dual power supplies now so hopefully water can keep flowing even during power cuts. We also have a generator on permanent standby incase we need them.
Some Debenhams stores also have back up generators. This is so even if there is a power cut we can still keep our stores open:) Shopping in candle light would be quite difficult
Also in sainsburys most stores had back up power – this was to keep the fridges running, otherwise there would be lots of wasted food (the maximum we can keep fridge items out of the fridge is 30 mins) after that they need to be thrown for food safety reasons
