Yes, I’m quite methodical and like lists – so everything that I do is usually written down in a notebook!
I’m also always interested in how things work, or how things fit together – which can mean I take longer to do things as I get distracted by the ‘how does that do that’ moments!
It does mean that I’ll take the time to understand things, and appreciate that you can do things in may different ways but still have the same result – which I think is definitely a good thing!
Yep! I am always looking at things and wondering how it was made. Even when I go on holiday, I love looking at structures and thinking how it is different than what I’ve worked on and take lots of pictures 🙂
My friends sometimes think I’m a bit of a geek…I will normally look for the engineering behind something, for instance if I was on a bridge I wouldn’t look at the view I’d look at the bridge.
I am always on the lookout for ways to save energy. I find myself sitting at train stations calculating how much its costing to keep the lights on and the trains running 🙂
You cant stop thinking like an engineer when you leave the office
Definitely! It makes you appreciate the complexity of the world around you. You can marvel at things in a different way. For example I often find myself thinking of the engineering behind nature. It is really amazing not only how humans solve problems but also how nature has adapted to the challenges of survival. Thinking like an engineer lets you see a different side to things.
