I was invited to the House of Commons earlier this year for an Engineering Council event hosted by Sir Peter Luff MP. There was a clear message that Engineering is key to the future of this Country and more effort is being put in to getting more people into engineering, especially women.
At the moment the focus from Government is there, long may it continue!
Politics is important to an engineer. Decisions that the government make affect every aspect of the working world – including engineering. The government is also responsibly for a lot of big engineering construction projects which keeps us all busy!
Politics is necessary in the world we live in and crucial for engineering. Politics helps to set regulations, laws or standards as to how things should be built, developed, planned and manufactured.
But politics needs to be well advised – we can’t all be experts in everything, and while politicians may be good at talking and proposing laws – they’re not necessarily experts in the engineering field. People in the engineering profession need to advise on current trends and research to make sure what is being decided is the right answer!
As to politics in general – I think more people need to be involved in politics and to realise that we all have a part to play and if we want change in a certain area – we need to make that change happen.
Politics help create laws that help society. There are lots of laws being passed to make sure we recycle more, save energy at home and waste less. So Politics is very much needed for what i do
