I think London has lots of old and inefficient houses that waste alot of energy because they are not well insulated or do not have double glazing or good draught proofing. I would want to change the city by making more efficient homes .
Mine’s along the same lines as Jaz!
I’d like it that when we build buildings and houses they have to be built with things like solar panels and be more sustainable than they currently are! We need to look at how we use energy as well as working out ways, or fuels, to get more energy to use!
I’m a fan of re-using big old buildings, rather than knocking them down I would prefer to see them restored…concrete generates a lot of carbon emissions and for me new buildings don’t have the charm of old ones!
I would like to see it become planning law that every new home is fitted with solar panels on the roof wherever possible and that sustainable drainage solutions are used to help avoid stress on our existing sewers some of which were built in the Victorian era.
I would like to see more efficient transport. You may have heard of driverless cars in the news recently – these have the potential to change how we move around cities to make it more efficient with much more automation. Some people like that idea and others don’t. As engineers it is up to us to make those systems work well so people trust them. Electric vehicles also show great potential for reducing emissions and making cities cleaner places to live.
