The most difficult position for me has to be when I present to my fellow mechanical engineers. They are all very experienced and know a lot more than me about most areas of the water industry. The questions they ask are really hard!
Hi Rach
Great question – The most difficult thing about my job is getting people to talk about energy as much as they talk about next years fashion trends. Working for a big retail company means energy is not their main focus. So i spend alot of time influencing and persuading people . This is people who work in the stores as well as senior management. Engineering is not just about solving problems, its also about communicating solutions.
Sometimes I get questioned by people if I’m sure my work is right when they think I’m wrong, that can be difficult! So I go away and check that I’m happy with my work and then go through it with them!
I found choosing which direction to take my career to be difficult. When I graduated I had to choose between a job with an oil company and the chance to stay at university to study more. It was a tough decision but eventually I decided to stay at University and pursue a career in research.
I guess this just goes to show that there are many choices if career if you study engineering!
