      Part of my role is to provide experiences and demonstrations to the public, particuarly young people, that help them understand more about science and engineering.

      A colleague of mine who is a mechinical engineer asked for my help to design and build a shaker table that could be used for demonstrations.

      The demonstration will involve teaching pupils about resonance, an important principle in engineering. (Watch it destroy a bridge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-zczJXSxnw) We’ll get pupils to design structures and see if they can withstand different vibrations and learn about why they fail.
