      Yes!

Engineering jobs are very similar to other types of jobs, within my role I generally work a typical day (9-5) so I’m home at a reasonable time and can spend the evenings with my family and also the weekends!

Sometimes my work requires me to be working in other parts of the world, however this tends to be for short periods of time.

A careful balance between work, family and hobbies is essential for a healthy and happy life. I try not to be away from the family on business unless it is absolutely necessary. And when I am away, I work very hard to make the most of every moment with the colleagues I am visiting. This means some socializing work as well as work, work.

I live in London and my parents live in Nottingham… so I don’t see them all the time! I do visit them at weekends when I can. My ‘family’ in London is my friends, and I do get to hang out with them in the evenings and weekends :). I work about 8.30am to 5pm, so I have plenty of spare time.

Yes – of course! A work life balance is very important and to make sure the job gets done you have to work on your time management skills and planning! That is something you learn with time and it makes you life easier and more efficient 🙂

I have a 2 year old daughter now, so life is very different than it was a few years ago! She goes to nursery on campus with me, so I get to drop her off in the morning and sometime see her at lunch. My wife is also an engineer – with a very responsible job (a bio-engineer for the NHS) so sometimes we need to work late or work at home – but not too often!

      We make it work.
