The simple answer to this question would be YES,
If your looking to go down the route of a professional engineer, you will need to have a strong work ethic, and good grades!
Engineering jobs are becoming more popular, and it means that courses (both college and universities) are getting more applications! This means they can be more fussy on who they want on their course!
Having great greats isn’t the whole package! There are many more things that can help you get that place at university! Extra-curricular stuff can help (maybe your part of a club that interests the university), as well as work experience (try find out if you can get small placements with local engineering companies to get a bit of experience to see what engineering is like) these sort of proactive attitudes go a long way in the university application and can set you out from the rest!

You don’t absolutely have to, but it’s a lot more difficult to become an engineer without GCSE. You could work as a technician and study later on, but even to become a technician it’s difficult if you haven’t done GCSEs.
So in theory yes, but in practice it would be a massive headache! It’s best to work hard at school now and make easier life later :).

Good GCSE’s and A-levels are definitely the most direct route to becoming an engineer. And focussing on your Maths and Science subjects are the key! Good luck!
