So onsite at Culham, we have JET. JET has been remotely maintained for a number of years. Therefore, from maintaining this we have learnt a lot about remote maintenance techniques, what works, what doesn’t, and have been continuously improving. All of these principles can be carried forward when we are designing systems for other applications. For testing of procedures, such as attaching a winch remotely, we can use the remote handling facilities on JET to test whether these are feasible. We also have a lot of strong international relationships with other research establishments who we are in contact with for knowledge sharing.
