My biggest aspiration is, and always will be, to be happy and enjoy life. However, as an engineer, my biggest aspiration is to directly contribute to the creation of a device or idea that could change millions of lives for the better. Humanity and the world that we live in has a never-ending stream of problems, but just being able to solve one would be incredible.
My biggest aspiration in life as an engineer is to contribute to something that makes a real difference to other peoples lives. Inspiring others to get involved in engineering and do the same is really important, as the more of us there are working on this – the better the results we’ll get!
The reason I started wanting to design medical devices is from working on a dry powdered inhaler when I was a teenager. I had friends at school who used inhalers during sport and I knew how important they are.
The thought of being able to design better medical devices for people who really need them seemed like a really good, purposeful job to have. It took a while but I realised I was good at it too. I’ve worked on a few medical devices now for real companies, I hope they eventually make it to market and that I have contributed in some way.
I’m really looking forward to the end of a current project I am working on where a device I have designed will be used on to patients who suffer from a genetic skin disease. If the device work and passes a clinical trial next year I will be very pleased… for a while… and then I’ll get on designing other devices for people who need them.
My biggest aspiration as an engineer is to develop a model that works well enough to be used in hospitals all over the world to predict/diagnose/manage human disease. This is definitely the goal of all of the work that I put in! 🙂

I say that it would be incredible, I think I’d enjoy the success for a day or two and would then go and try to solve a different problem!
