Sugar isn’t bad for you if you don’t eat too much of it. The problem is when we eat too much sugar and don’t exercise enough to use up all the energy that it provides. If this happens the body changes the sugar into fat, leading to us putting on weight.
Our bodies are designed to not eat too much sugar – try eating a bag of sugar and see how far you get! But when foods that contain the same levels of sugar and fat our body goes a little crazy for it and we can’t stop ourselves from eating when we don’t need any more. This is because our bodies haven’t completely changed to the world that we currently live in and we still have some of the hunter-gatherer instincts from thousands of years ago that make us eat lots in case we can’t find food later on. This is a problem because a lot of processed food contains both sugar and fat, meaning that we eat too much!
Yep, as Marcus said, sugar and lots of things aren’t too bad for you as long as you only eat just what you need, the same goes for fat and carbohydrates.
If we don’t exercise enough sugar turns into fat in our bodies.
Sugar is also not very good for our teeth, the bacteria that live in our mouths feed on the sugar and form plaque which is acidic. This eats away at our teeth.
So if you’re going to eat sweets either eat a small amount OR eat more but make sure you exercise AND don’t forget to brush your teeth twice a day!
