Research is very important – its a way on understanding what happens under certain conditions, and/or learning from others experience with the aim of making things better….
You do research in all aspects of my work… considering – what happened this time ? vs other times ?- what worked well ?and why… ?
Yes I learn things everyday, small or big. Sometimes I look up a new mathematical method to solve the problem I’m working on; or I discover a new trend; or I notice something new in my dataset. Every day looks different for me, and it’s really up to me how much I learn as my job is self-driven. So be interested in what you’re doing and I’m sure you’ll learn lots no matter what job you are in 🙂
Hi Hardie,
Yes, definitely! Sometimes you learn a lot from reading about what experiments other people have done which might help you in your own work. Other times it’s taking learnings from bits that have failed or not passed tests so that you know what to improve for next time 🙂 All good progress!
Hey Hardie,
I do indeed learn things everyday — from my research and from my students too! They aren’t always big revalations or findings, usually just little things and sometimes they are me just re-learnign things I had forgotten (usually some really useful equation or chemical reaction I learned quite some time back), some days, i am analysing experimental data and I make connections with thing and are able to understand why something was happening or why one of my experiments was giving me unpredicted results.
So yes, I learn things every day cos every day is a school day!
