No never… I’ve really enjoyed my job… I’ve been working for almost 28 years and never not wanted to go to work… everyday if different !

      Thanks

      Hi Macey,

Yes, I will have to admit I have occasionally doubted. When I was in high school I originally wanted to become a medical doctor. I changed to engineering because I wanted to keep my maths and knew there were other ways to be involved in healthcare, which was what I was really passionate about. That has been true, but I think I would have also enjoyed medicine, and when the maths gets tricky or something isn’t working, I wonder if I would have enjoyed the ‘more straightforward’ career path of a doctor. But as an engineer I’ve been able to be more flexible with my time and I’ve enjoyed the problem solving.

There are always ways to incorporate your interests into your job. For me, I like the application to healthcare, so I’ve been able to help organise a clinical trial and see the effects of our engineering efforts directly – to be used in medical research, which is exciting and rewarding. So don’t be afraid of being stuck in something you potentially won’t like, because there are always to merge areas you enjoy and retrain along the way if necessary.

      Hi Macey,
Good question! Sometimes I have, when there’s been a particularly tricky problem and I’ve been stuck trying to find an answer for ages, doubts can creep in. But most of the time I can’t imagine doing anything else!
