I first new I wanted to be an engineer when I found out about biomedical engineering, and this was quite late! I was in my last year of highschool, 17 years old, and suddenly got told about biomedical engineering as a bridge between medicine and mathematical modelling. So I jumped onto the engineering bandwagon and said goodbye to my previous idea of doing medicine. I’ve not regretted it.
But it’s never too late to change direction in your career/study, and for biomedical engineering, lots of things feed into it. For example, there’s a girl in my lab who did a maths degree, and now she’s an engineer!
