As an engineer you never stop studying, whether it be classes or reasearching a particular area, so all of my adult life.
In more general terms, it depends what type and level of engineer you wish to become.
You might complete an apprenticeship and complete NVQS, or you might take a more academic route through university, which will take longer, but probably end up with a more responsible job.
I took the more practical route, so overall it has taken me longer to get to a more reponsible position.
formally I have been studying for 24 years! since I started school at 5.Different types of engineering require different levels of academic training but I really like learning so I’m happy.
