There are some really odd questions that people haven’t managed to work out the answer to yet. It’s easy to think science totally understands a lot of stuff but it really doesn’t! Theres so much stuff that we still don’t know!
Hm, I guess that sound works in very strange ways, and that for things like ultrasound (which is what is used to detect and monitor pregnancies, but I use it to characterise other types of tissue), understanding how sound interacts with a sample is more complex (but also more interesting) than I thought!
Using microscopes to see tiny objects has been fascinating. I recently imaged my brain cells with an electron microscope and could see tiny features that you couldn’t see with the eye or even a regular microscope.
I think that working with amputees, one of the most interesting things I have found is the different ways trauma affects people. How some people move on in life and make the most of what they have, whereas some people dwell on what they have lost.
My experience is that none of us know which group we would be in, because we cannot imagine such a change to our lives.
