I have always been interested in how things worked so I naturally moved towards science and I used to want to be a vet! When I decided I didn’t want to be a vet I looked for degrees that would let me keep on studying bits of all three sciences so I found biomedical materials, and from there I decided to move fully into engineering.
My advice would be to keep and open mind and really look into different fields, as you may find some areas of science or engineering that you’d never heard of but really suit your interests. Keep working hard and stay curious!

I didn’t really have an inspiration to go into engineering, my apprenticeship was the first job that came along.
However, once I started I found I loved it and I have done ever since.
Now I am inspired by some of the people I meet, both people who use the devices I design and other engineers I work with.

I’ve also always been interested in how things work and wanted to invent something that could help people, so the interest for engineering and science was pretty natural.
I remember that when I went to a uni visit (I was 17), I spoke to a last-year who was studying nanotechnology, and she said that she really liked nanotechnology because “It’s like the universe, it’s also infinite but infinitely small.” That stuck with me so much, that I ended up studying nanotechnology as well.
I guess my point is to keep your eyes and ears open, see what sticks and what interests you. There are so many different possibilities, so try and find out what really interests and excites you!

It kind of happened by accident I guess. I wanted to be a dr in high school but honestly didnt get the GCSE grades for it so had to reassess. I knew I loved science and wanted to carry on with that …eventually I found bioengineering and figured out a way of combining science and helping others with technology instead of clinically.
