• Question: do you have to inspect any of the components to ensure that they are made correctly ?

      Yup, and we test them endlessly too to make sure they can put up with the conditions they’ll be going through. We shake them to see if they’ll survive launch, cool to -100 degrees, then heat them to 300 degrees, then cool again. We irradiate them – basically, we try to kill them and if they survive, we send them to space.

      Bit like this competition. Trial by fire!

      Personally I don’t, but there is a whole department that does inspect components before they are fitted to the car.
