My job is to make Engines operate in the way that you would expect them to if you buy a new car. We take new engines and develop them on Test Benches before putting them in Vehicles to test in Test Chambers and in the Real world. Everything must run correctly from -40 to +50 degrees and up to 3000metres.

My day can change quite a lot during the week depending on what is required. There are generally a number of tasks to be completed on both a technical and non-technical basis. I have to make sure that everyone is aware of what is going on with my project and for this weekly and sometimes daily updates are necessary.
Most of my time is spent either in a Test room Calibrating the engine on the project I am working on or in a vehicle on a Test track or in a Test chamber. At certain points during the year we also have to take the vehicles to different environmental climate e.g. Italy and Spain for hot work and Finland for cold work

What I'd do with the money
I would pay for students to visit Engineering sites to really understand what goes on

I think it is great when Engineers get the chance to present to students in Schools or Colleges but it is always better if they can actually visit a Technical Centre or Test Facility to see what really goes on. This makes it much easier to give practical demonstrations and not just presenting nice pictures.
