It was when I was under Thomson CSF, being very much involved with our virtual reality environment, to test different machines with – that was very exciting, and once I looked up at the clock and almost fell out of my chair; the time was 9pm, and it only felt like 5pm!
Jess – I have only really had one job and have been with WSP for years.
Im going to answer this like it was which project did I like most. Strangely Im going to say that I really enjoyed a job I did many years ago which was very small. It was a job to build some advertising towers next to a railway. It was the job where I really grew up so to speak. I did the whole thing from the first meeting with the client, did a concept, built several models, did the planning application, got permission from the railway authority, did the calculations, did the drawings, tendered the work, selected the contractor, reported on the costs, got it built and handed it over to the client. Since then I have spent 20 odd years driving past it still doing its little job by the Cromwell Road in London. All very satisfying and enjoyable – to this very day.
My favourite has to be my current job because it’s what I dreamed about when I was studying at university (and once I’d found out what jobs I could do as an engineer).
I also loved working at MINI because I got to drive the cars every day and it was really varied.
I’m quite happy with what I do at present to be honest. I have a lot of freedom and flexibility in my role which I really like and there are always new challenges coming along on a regular basis.
