Interstingly, the most important device created in the field of high rise engineering was the high speed elevator. The ability to design and build high rise buildings existed, but until the high speed elevator was developed there was no way of getting the public up the building quickly enough to make the original skyscrapers practical.

No question that this is the computer for us. A lot of other engineering, science, and nearly everything else also rely on computers. It has accelerated the development of technology never seen before, and yet computers are still very “new” to humans! Exciting things to come up in our own lifetimes for sure, and all thanks to this device 🙂

Same as Andy, definitely the computer. People used to do orbit calculations by hand before that. It’s unbelievable, thinking about some of the stuff we managed to do in the 60s without half the technology we have today.
The internet is pretty awesome, too. Life has changed dramatically since that arrived.

Like Andy and Rain, I’m going to have answer the computer!
The software I use performs complicated calculations very quickly, and although some of the calculations could be done by hand, there would be a great deal of information missing and it would take a very long time!
