      Hi,
Firstly I would say to make sure you study maths and physics, these subjects are the basis of most engineering, but don’t worry that you will spend your life as an engineer doing pure maths (unless you want to) I certainly don’t!
However, my best advice is to go for it! Ask lots or questions, try things like taking apart a lawnmower engine (with owner’s permission of course) or doing work experience in an engineering company. Remember that if you ask to do something the worst that can happen is that they say no, which isn’t so bad, and if they yes it could be really awesome!

It is all down to self belief and effort. If you want to do something enough you will probably succeed. You need to look and see what the building blocks or foundations of a career are and intially concentrate on them. For engineering you cannot go wrong with maths and sciences. The main thing is to keep an open mind as you will get a better picture of what you want to do as you experience a few things.

      Dear Holly,
      (1) Always ask the “why” and “how things work” questions
      (2) Mathematics and Physics
      (3) Apply for a work experience in an engineering company

      Attitude to have:
Persevere – Continue doing something what you strongly believe in even though there are obstacles, discouragements and difficulties along the way.

      Hi!

I would tell them to have enthusiasm for engineering and problem solving. If you really want something and you are enthusiastic about it, then you will achieve it. The rest is just an addition.
