Question: What is it like working as a flood risk engineer?

It is a highly specialised job. I spent eight years of my career designing different flood protection structure such as earth bund and sea wall and enhancing the environment. I keep doing what I love because I like making a difference.

When I am not working in a design office, I manage projects to protect people from flood risk. When weather forecast shows signs of rainfall, I take up a flood incident role duty. This involves responding to information requests from public on flooding. Engineers do talk to people on the ground so that people are educated to take precaution and take active steps to manage flood risk.

Not many people know that six inches of rapidly moving flood water can easily knock a person down. It is very rewarding to know that I am working towards protecting millions of businesses, homes and lives.
