      Hi Before my current job i worked on a similar older machine doing similar things so i was able to bring a lot of experience to the job. I am sure this helped in the interview. However there were many new things that i have had to learn but there are many great training courses available and it is suprising what you can learn to do by watching Youtube…

      I had experience and knowledge from the university before I joined my company. I mainly had experience in mathematical analysis of engineering designs and this helped me a lot to get this job. I feel that that mathematical analysis is my destiny, so current experience is exactly what I am looking for as well!

      Dear Alex Mac,
      Yes, having a prior work experiences will give you an advantage over other people. Before I got my current job, I applied and worked as a summer placement student with the same organisation.

      Hi Alex,
      I did quite a bit of work experience, from doing temp office work answering phones to working in a green grocers (both of which were before I left school).
      Engineering-wise I went on some engineering experience courses (such as the ones run by The Smallpeice Trust or Headstart) and I did a week working as an assistant engineer on a Tall Ship (a large sailing boat a bit like out of Pirates of the Caribbean) before I left school also. I then did an engineering Gap Year where I spent 3 months doing hand and machine skills and then 4 months working at a Fire Engine Factory in France! I did more work experience as a student at university also…

      It is definitely a good thing to do, firstly for yourself to understand what kind of job you might like and what work is all about and secondly the more you have done the better your applications will look whether it be for an apprenticeship, university or a job. However, I would be careful not to do too much just in case your studies suffer!
