Question: Do you regret taking Art as a GCSE, once you got to college? Did you wish you'd spent time working on something that could've help you become an engineer sooner?
I have never regretted taking Art as a GCSE. I’m actually taking a ceramics course right now which has reminded me how much I love art. However, I also did the GCSEs that were important for doing well at engineering, such as Maths, the sciences and English (which is important too because as Engineers we have to be able to communicate well). I also did Design Technology which was a really good introduction to problem solving.
If you want to be an engineer the key thing is to take the toolkit subjects of Maths and Physics, and then take whatever else you think you are good at or would enjoy or helps you keep you options open (Art included!). Then you can either jump into an apprenticeship, or carry on to university after Alevels.
