• Question: How long do you need to study to become a engineer?

      It depends on what level you enter at but to gain chartership you need experience and also qualifications which can take between 4-6 years after leaving college

      So I did my Alevels, then I did a 4 year university degree to get my MEng, and then I did 5 years of on the job training to get my chartership.

      In Portugal Engineering is a 5 years degree that at the end gives you a combined BSc + MEng degree.

      I did A levels and a 4 year University degree, with 1 year of that spent working in industry. My situation is a bit different – I got a BSc not an MEng because I work in a hybrid field of design engineering. So I won’t be going for chartership, I’ll be going for membership of IED – the Institute of Engineering Designers.
