Engineering school is more about learning how to critical think and how to have a rational approach to problems, so while I can’t think of anything particular now, I’m absolutely sure they would help 🙂
I would know about how to build a sturdy structure to protect me from the wind and rain, and have somewhere to keep firewood dry. I would think up ways to make basic tools so I could get some food and store fresh water. That’d keep me alive until someone noticed I was missing at least! I guess if nobody came to rescue me I’d start building a rowboat, and try to get over to Lewis or Skye on a clear day.
I would use my super problem solving skills to obtain water, food and shelter (I expect I could get water from rain or a spring depending on the size of the island; food from the sea or from birds; and shelter from whatever I could find to build with, being a structural expert I’m open minded!)
Having sorted out the basics, I would go and find Andrew before he dies of exposure or starvation and give him a nice dry place to work while he sorts out contact with the mainland! As my plan B (as an engineer, I always have a plan B) I would be building the boat with Ele 🙂
