Just be determined. If you want to do something, and work hard enough you can get there. There will always be roadblocks, and you will always hit problems, but it is just a test. As long as you are interested then you can do anything you want. Just try your best.
I would say to always be willing work hard and you will do well. I did not have a lot of software engineering knowledge when I started my job and now I have gained a wide range of knowledge about different development languages.
Be bold and believe in yourself. Anything is possible once you put your mind into it . Definitely do research into the roles you want to get involved with and try get stuck in early by attending STEM events or carrying out work experience.
For work experience go and spend a week with an engineering company and shadow an engineer. Then apply for an apprenticeship, as this will give you the opportunity to spend one day a week in college/uni getting a qualification (paid for by the company.) The rest of the week you’d spend on placement working in different projects; in a large company like Rolls Royce, you’d spend approx. 12 weeks on each placement and then rotate to a different project over 2/3 years. With Rolls Royce you also get the opportunity to go on an outward bound course and do a STEM community project. If you’re interested have a look at the website.
Never give up! Always follow what you’re most interested in and, if it seems difficult, take a break, then come back to whatever you were stuck in. Ultimately, if you always choose the option which seems most interesting to you, you will always enjoy what you’re doing!
I think all the others have covered it really well! I think the best piece of advice I can give you is to work hard, never give up and always ask questions!
