Do it! It’s a great career with infinite opportunities across the world. Look out for STEM events or School STEM clubs and get involved where you can – these events usually involve engineers like us who work in industry and can provide you with local information on companies and opportunities that may be willing to provide work experience / advice.

There’s more to engineering than a grey haired man in white lab coat! It’s for everyone, boys and girls. Engineering isn’t just about designing, building and testing engines, we need people to look after the purchasing of the hardware, cleaning parts as well as all the office support staff, the list is endless. Get involved in as many STEM activities as you can through school, scouting and/or guiding. Whilst your still young it’s best to try hands on activities first, have a go at building rocket cars, air rockets, making slime the list is endless. As you get older you can build on these skills and going into theory how things work before deciding your exam subjects.

I would say get your foot in the door and get stuck in . Try looking for opportunities such as work experience , after school clubs or even youtube videos to learn more and network with other keen engineers.
The STEM industry are always looking at ways to inspire the future generation so look out for them and try go along to events and careers fairs they run to talk to people first hand on their experience and ways to get involved.

Take advantage of any opportunity which comes your way to try it out! Engineering is so varied that it’s also really important to try lots of different things within the subject so you can decide which aspect you enjoy the most.

Go for it, get stuck in and try it out. There are plenty of opportunities to so STEM related activities, just look at the STEM website. You can start at home with things you find in your cupboard. Ask around in the family, you may even be able to find engineers to talk to, and ask what it is like. Use this site to find out all the answers that you need. Just go for it!
