In the past year, I’ve learnt how to make solar panels! This involves using a piece of equipment called an evaporating which can evaporate metals and metal oxides onto glass. I’ve also learnt how to test the solar panels using a solar simulator and something called a Faraday Cage!

Over the past year, I’ve learned how to process GD (General Development ) kit. These are kits containing engine parts which go all over the world to the testbeds, where engines are being tested. Each kit has to go through ‘three gates’ once it’s been raised and approved. It needs a DIB creating, then an overnight run, then a structure, another overnight run. Once the kit has completed these gates and it contains No New Parts i.e. the parts are already on site. It can be collected by the Development engineer or shipped to the testbed.

I have developed skills in picking out the requirements that I need to concentrate on. There are always huge amounts of requirements for space projects, but only some that really dominate. It is sometimes difficult to see where to start, and thats what I have learnt in the last year.
