Go for it!! Although it may be daunting at first once you get stuck in you will realise the amount of support and opportunities there are out there , especially for young women in engineering.
Coming into the field i was very anxious and nervous but two years in i have been faced with lots of opportunities and chances that i could never or imagined.
Definitely worth taking the plunge and getting stuck in !!
Totally agree! The number of women in engineering is increasing and I know some fantastic young girls who have come through our apprenticeship and are now well-respected engineers. Try as many areas as you can, engineering is a very broad term and can cover many areas. See what you can find.
From my experience, the women doing our chemical engineering degree are some of the best young engineers I’ve had the pleasure of teaching. Your gender (and all other characteristics) is no reason not to pursue the career you want to do – have a look at what opportunities there are and pick the one you think you’d find the most interesting or enjoyable!
