1000%% Engineering as a whole is a field that needs and wants aspiring engineers no matter their skill level as it is a field that is adaptable and always seeking new ways of doing things.
Also no matter the line of work you’re in you can take the skill to different areas and adapt it. So yeah i guess my line of work is good for aspiring future engineers as the skill you learn are relevant everywhere.
Definitely! The space industry is up and coming, and it will only get bigger. We need engineers, and there are so many young people out there that could be great engineers if they knew where the opportunities were and know that they have the skills needed. I would also say you don’t have to be an electronic engineer like me, there are tons of different fields of engineering, all making great improvements to the world around us.
Definitely, there will always be plenty of opportunities in engineering and the government is investing heavily in inspiring the next generation of engineers. You don’t have to worry too much about specialising in a particular field right away, there are plenty of engineering opportunities that provide a broad overview of many disciplines and will help you to decide which areas interest you.
Definitely! Rolls Royce plc encourages aspiring future engineers through our outreach STEM activities. Whilst taking part in these activities you’ll have the opportunity to ask about ways into the company. The most popular is becoming an apprentice. There are four types of apprenticeships, practical – which is hands on and cover manufacturing, building and testing aimed at fitters, welders. Technical – which covers design, planning and progamme management aimed at modellers and testing technicians. There are also degree and A level apprenticeships available. So if you inspire to be an engineer, have a look at what’s available to you and have a go.
