In 10 years time I would really like to be a more experience researcher working on creating artificial limbs for people in developing countries. If I remember rightly, 98% of the world’s amputees are in low-middle income countries, but only 2% of the world’s prosthetics are used in those countries. That’s because they can be very expensive to create because of the technology that’s needed and how often they need to be changed and updated. There’s also a lot of waste in the way that prosthetics are manufactured in the richer countries.
I’d like to use the engineering skills and the knowledge I have from the prosthetics research that I’m doing now (and hope to continue to do) so that I can create solutions for amputees that are affordable and sustainable.
