That’s an interesting question and I actually had to think about it for a little bit before writing my answer. I’ve never really thought about it before now.
I knew I wanted to be an engineer before I knew I wanted to work with aeroplanes as I was always interested in how things were made and how things worked. I then joined the Air Cadets and decided to join the Royal Air Force. Through the experiences I had in the Air Cadets I grew to love aeroplanes: I visited military bases with lots of different types of aeroplanes, I’d always loved the Red Arrows and I learned how to fly. All of those things together over time just happened.
